Immerse Yourselves in the Landscape

Explore the majesty of Mount Desert Island, amaze at the beauty of Acadia National Park, or set out to sea to gaze at the deep blue water. No matter which direction you go, or which way you decide to travel, there is beauty to discover around every corner. Just minutes from our front door are a plethora of opportunities to walk, hike, bike, drive or float your way to breathtaking scenery. Your romantic getaway from New York will be greatly enhanced by the beautiful backdrops and spectacular sunrises and sunsets. So be sure to borrow binoculars from the front desk to enhance the views and pack your camera to capture the moment.

Soak Up the Views with a Hike

Freshen your perspective with an invigorating hike in Acadia National Park. Take in the fresh, pine-scented air while you ascend the hills or follow the more accessible Carriage Roads. Below are a couple of recommended treks, but we're happy to point you in the right direction if you're looking for something more tailored to your needs and skill level.

  • Cadillac North Ridge Trail is an easy-to-moderate 4-mile hike that is one of the most popular in the park. You'll pass by beautiful wildflowers and be rewarded with stunning views from the top. The 1,528-foot summit is not only the highest in the park, it's the highest point along the entire eastern seaboard.
  • For up-close views of the rocky shoreline with the ocean as the backdrop, we recommend taking the Ocean Path Trail. You'll start at Sand Beach, be taken by Thunder Hole and Monument Cove, and end up at Otter Point. You can go back the way you came, or use Park Loop Road for a different vantage point.

Explore the Landscape by Bike

Take to the trails on two wheels with a biking adventure in Bar Harbor! With over 45 miles of bike-friendly roads and a vast array of trails to explore, Acadia Park is a biker's paradise. Bring your own bike to venture out on your own, or get a bike rental from Acadia Bike, just about a mile down the road. They also offer Ranger-led tours during the week in the summer and fall – it's a great way to get introduced to the area. If you're going to take to the trails on your own, we recommend that you start on the car-free Carriage Road System which winds its way through the park. From there, you'll have lots of opportunities to branch out to other trails that intrigue you. We're happy to suggest routes for your skill and comfort level! Also, don't forget to purchase your park pass before heading out during your getaway from New York.
